Elopements and micro-weddings aren’t just trendy—they’re meaningful, flexible, and perfect for couples who want to spend their day laughing, exploring, and actually being present.

Over the years, I’ve been lucky enough to photograph some seriously unforgettable intimate weddings throughout New England. Whether you’re looking for a city hall elopement, a romantic garden ceremony, or a celebration on the beach, this list has you covered with real locations, real couples, and a whole lot of inspiration.

Hartford City Hall Elopement – Hartford, Connecticut

This elopement was all about keeping things simple and focused. Just the couple, no guests, and the grand, marble-filled halls of Hartford City Hall as the backdrop. This building is stunning. Imagine dramatic staircases, vintage details, and windows that flood the place with light. It’s perfect for couples who want a quiet, meaningful ceremony without sacrificing style. Pro tip: you can schedule your ceremony right through the city clerk’s office and bring a photographer (hi!) to turn the moment into something unforgettable

Kinney Azalea Gardens – South Kingstown, Rhode Island

Hidden away like a secret garden, Kinney Azalea Gardens is one of my favorite places for a small wedding. Melissa and Brenden were married here with just a few guests and a surprise golden retriever tagging along. The florals were past peak bloom, but that didn’t matter one bit. It still felt like magic. Quiet, private, and full of wild beauty. If you’re looking for a place that feels peaceful and untouched, this is it.

Lighthouse Point Park – New Haven, Connecticut

Nathasha and Viranga had their intimate celebration right on the shoreline, and it was everything. This spot comes with beachy vibes, a vintage carousel, and a towering lighthouse. Their ceremony included just a few loved ones, a bottle of champagne, and one epic sunset. We wrapped things up with some photos by the carousel and a little dance in the sand. It was laid-back, heartfelt, and wildly beautiful.

Lake Placid Lodge – Lake Placid, New York

Okaaaaay so I know this isn’t technically New England, but it’s close enough and too good not to include. Kevin and Heather’s wedding felt like the most perfect summer vacation. They got married overlooking Whiteface Mountain with only their adult kids there to witness it. After the ceremony, everyone hopped on a wooden boat to cruise around Lake Placid with champagne in hand. Then they all sat down for a cozy dinner at the lodge. If you’re into mountain views, lake breezes, and intimate vibes, this one’s for you.

Fuller Gardens – North Hampton, New Hampshire

Tucked along the New Hampshire coast, Fuller Gardens is packed with gorgeous flowers and romantic little corners. Kaelyn and Evan brought 17 of their closest family members and had the sweetest ceremony in the garden. Afterward, they read private vows in the front garden and took portraits by the koi pond and inside the greenhouse. It felt soft, peaceful, and super special. This location is perfect if you want a romantic garden feel without a lot of extra frills.

Downtown Providence Backyard Wedding – Providence, Rhode Island

Andrea and Susan’s day started at Homewood Suites in downtown Providence, where they got ready while watching kayakers float by. After some portraits along Waterplace Park, they exchanged vows in a family backyard with just 11 guests. It was relaxed, joyful, and all about the people they love. This is proof that you don’t need a fancy venue to have a wedding that’s deeply meaningful and beautifully documented.

Roger Williams Park Rose Garden – Providence, Rhode Island

This garden is a total dream in the spring. Emily and Kevin brought 12 guests to the rose garden where they got married under the gazebo surrounded by blooming flowers. After the ceremony, we explored the pedestrian bridge for some portraits by the river. If you’re looking for a romantic garden wedding in the heart of Providence, this is your spot.

Gould Barn – Topsfield, Massachusetts

Sydney and Matt flew out from Portland, Oregon to have the most New England fall wedding you could imagine. Historic buildings, crunchy leaves, and the coziest barn reception. They filled their day with Queen songs, private vows, and homemade hot sauce favors. Their friends played cornhole, drank local pumpkin beer, and danced under twinkle lights. It felt more like the world’s best backyard party than a wedding. And that’s exactly what they wanted.

FAQ: Planning your elopement at a New England elopement and micro-wedding location

What’s the difference between an elopement and a micro-wedding?
Elopements are usually just the couple (and maybe a few guests) while micro-weddings typically have under 30 people. Both are smaller than traditional weddings and allow for way more flexibility.

What’s the best time of year to elope in New England?
Fall is a showstopper with all the foliage, but spring and summer are also gorgeous. Winter can be magical too if you’re up for some snow.

Can I include guests or pets in my elopement?
Absolutely. Some couples bring their dogs, immediate family, or their best friends. It’s your day. Make it yours.

Do I need a permit to elope in public locations?
Some spots like city parks or historic venues might require a permit. It’s always a good idea to check ahead or ask your photographer (again, hi!) who can help you navigate it.

How far in advance should I start planning?
You can plan an elopement in a few weeks or a micro-wedding in a few months. That’s part of the beauty of keeping things small. It’s way more flexible than a traditional wedding timeline.
