Johanna and Nick booked their engagement session specifically to see if we’d click before committing to their wedding day.

Fuller Gardens, North Hampton, NH

If you haven’t been to Fuller Gardens, it’s this gorgeous historical estate garden right by the ocean in North Hampton. It has koi ponds, flower-lined paths, and ocean light filtering through everything. Even off-season it’s kind of absurdly pretty. Like the kind of place where you round a corner and just stop for a second and listen to the birds.

We wandered the whole garden and found little tucked-away spots under trees, let the late afternoon sun do its thing, and just kind of followed wherever the light was good.

What Johanna and Nick were actually like

Easy. That’s the word. These two are just easy together… the kind of couple where you’re not manufacturing moments because the moments are already happening. They’d laugh at something and then forget I was there, which is exactly when I get my favorite shots!

FAQ: Fuller Gardens engagement sessions

Why do an engagement session at all? Partly because the photos are beautiful, but honestly the bigger reason is that your wedding day goes so fast. Having a session beforehand means we’ve already figured out how we work together, you’ve already been in front of my camera once, and on the actual day you can just be there instead of warming up. It makes a real difference.

When’s the best time to shoot at Fuller Gardens? Golden hour, always. The light off the ocean in the hour before sunset is something else. The gardens are gorgeous spring through fall!

What should we wear? Whatever you actually feel like yourself in. Neutrals and earthy tones tend to photograph well against the greenery, but more importantly… don’t wear something stiff or uncomfortable just because it looks good in a picture. You can tell when someone’s uncomfortable in their outfit and it shows up in photos.
