Romi & Nate’s Wedding at Roseland Cottage | Woodstock, Connecticut
Roseland Cottage looks like someone dreamed up an English fairytale and then manifested it into rural Connecticut in 1846 and just… left it there.
Hot pink Gothic Revival facade. Intricate woodwork. Original mid-19th century furnishings still inside. Lush gardens that have been growing for almost 200 years. It’s a National Historic Landmark and it is genuinely one of the most unique wedding venues in all of New England, and I will die on that hill.
Romi and Nate found it and immediately knew. I get that. I really get that.
The ceremony
Warm June afternoon, golden sun, vows exchanged right in front of that iconic pink facade. It was the kind of ceremony that wasunhurried, heartfelt, full of excited reactions. Catch Nathan jumping at the end of the aisle out of pure joy
The reception
Small Kitchen, Big Taste catered, which, if you’ve had their food…you get it. Garden tables set among the blooming flowers, champagne glasses catching the afternoon light. The kind of reception where nobody’s checking their phone because why would you.
Roseland Cottage, Woodstock, CT
Roseland Cottage is run by Historic New England and sits in Woodstock in the quiet northeastern corner of Connecticut, a part of the state that I think gets criminally overlooked for weddings. The cottage itself was built in 1846 by Henry Bowen, an abolitionist and businessman who clearly had excellent taste, and it’s been this perfectly preserved slice of history ever since.
For couples who want something intimate, historically interesting, and genuinely unlike anything else, this is your place. It’s not a blank-slate venue. It has a personality, a past, and gardens that have been tended for nearly two centuries. That’s rare.
If you’re planning a wedding here, I would love to photograph it. And check out my full Connecticut wedding venues guide for more ideas across the state.
FAQ: Weddings at Roseland Cottage, Woodstock, Connecticut
What makes Roseland Cottage a good wedding venue? The Gothic Revival architecture, the hot pink facade, the original historic furnishings, the gardens…there is genuinely nothing else that looks like this in Connecticut. It’s intimate by nature and it has a character that most venues just can’t manufacture.
Can you have an outdoor ceremony at Roseland Cottage? Yes, in front of the pink facade, among the flower beds, tucked into the garden. The outdoor spaces are stunning and there are several good options depending on your guest count and vibe.
Is it good for small weddings? It’s practically made for them. The scale of the property and the intimacy of the gardens lend themselves to smaller guest lists in the best way. Romi and Nate’s wedding felt cozy and complete without a single thing missing.
What are the best photo spots at Roseland Cottage? The pink facade is the obvious one and it earns that status. But the garden paths, the woodwork details on the cottage exterior, and the flower beds in full June bloom are all incredible. We’ll find every good corner, I promise.
