Katie & Bryan’s Rooftop Wedding at Commonwealth | Cambridge, Massachusetts
Katie and Bryan tried to get married three times before this day actually happened.
Three times. Covid kept shutting it down, pushing it back, making them recalibrate. So when they finally got to the rooftop of Commonwealth restaurant in Cambridge with their people gathered around them and the Boston skyline behind them, the applause started and basically didn’t stop. Every few minutes, someone would just start clapping again. Like the guests had three postponements worth of celebration stored up and needed to get it out.
Even thinking about it now is making me tear up.
The ceremony: Commonwealth rooftop, Cambridge, MA
Commonwealth sat right in Cambridge with a rooftop that looked out over the Boston skyline, and on a clear day it was genuinely stunning. Katie and Bryan exchanged vows up there with the city spread out behind them, and the energy in that crowd was something I haven’t felt at many weddings. It was the particular joy of people who waited a long time for something and are now watching it actually happen.
(Commonwealth has since closed, which is genuinely sad because it was such a good venue. If you’re looking for rooftop wedding options in Boston, get in touch and we can figure out what’s out there now.)
The details: vinyl records, obviously
Katie and Bryan are music people, and it showed. Instead of table numbers they used vinyl records- actual iconic albums, one per table. Guests spent half the cocktail hour debating which table assignment was the best one. It’s the kind of detail that’s so specific and personal that it immediately tells you everything about a couple. And is a great conversation piece.
The rest of the reception matched. Great food, great energy, a room full of people who’d been waiting three years to do this and were not taking a single moment for granted.
