Emily & Kevin’s Micro-Wedding at Roger Williams Park | Providence, Rhode Island
Twelve people. A rose garden in full bloom. Vows that made everyone laugh and then immediately cry.
Emily and Kevin knew exactly what they wanted their wedding to feel like, and they built a whole day around that feeling rather than around a guest list or a checklist. The result was one of those days where you leave thinking “yep, that was it. That was what a wedding is supposed to be.”
The ceremony: Roger Williams Park Rose Garden, Providence, RI
Roger Williams Park is one of those places that Providence people kind of take for granted because it’s just always been there, but honestly the Rose Garden is stunning when you truly immerse yourself in it. Hundreds of varieties of roses, brick pathways, a gazebo in the center, the whole thing. In bloom season it smells unreal.
Emily and Kevin exchanged vows under the gazebo with their twelve closest people gathered around them. It was exactly as intimate and warm as you can image. Their vows had personality. Genuinely funny in places, genuinely emotional in others…and the garden just emphasized every word.
Portraits on the pedestrian bridge
After the ceremony we headed over to the pedestrian bridge nearby, which sits right over the water with the Providence skyline behind it, and it is such a good portrait spot. Bonus: a Del’s Lemonade cart was parked right at the bridge. QUINTESSENTIAL Rhode Island! These unexpected situations are always my favorite.
The reception: 345 by Plant City
For their reception, Emily and Kevin took their twelve people to 345 by Plant City, a fully plant-based speakeasy hidden behind a door inside a bakery on South Water Street. You enter through the kitchen. There’s no sign. The shades are drawn and there are velvet bar seats and chandeliers and Amy Winehouse playing overhead. It is exactly as good as it sounds.
Craft cocktails, incredible plant-based food, twelve people who love each other, and nowhere else to be. That’s the whole reception. That’s enough. That’s more than enough.
(Note: the South Water Street location of Plant City has since closed but 345 by Plant City was such a perfect spot for this day that it deserved to be documented as part of their story.)
On micro-weddings in Providence
Emily and Kevin are such a good argument for keeping it small. When you have twelve guests, there’s no table you don’t visit, no moment you don’t catch, no person who leaves feeling like they barely talked to you. The day stays contained and present in a way that big weddings genuinely can’t replicate.
And Providence is so good for this. The Rose Garden, Waterplace Park, Benefit Street, the pedestrian bridge… you have a whole beautiful city to wander through without needing a venue with a ballroom.

FAQ: Micro-weddings in Providence, Rhode Island
Why is Roger Williams Park a good ceremony location? The Rose Garden has a gazebo, brick pathways, and hundreds of rose varieties. It’s romantic without being stuffy, and it’s free to use as a public park. Peak bloom is late spring through early summer, which is ideal. It also photographs beautifully in every direction.
What are the best photo spots in Providence for a micro-wedding? The pedestrian bridge over the Providence River, Waterplace Park, Benefit Street, and Prospect Terrace are all incredible. Honestly the whole city is walkable and photogenic. We can cover a lot of ground in a short afternoon.
How many guests is a micro-wedding? Typically under 30, but Emily and Kevin’s twelve-person wedding felt absolutely complete. It’s less about the number and more about being intentional with who’s in the room.
Do I need a traditional venue for a micro-wedding in Providence? Nope. A public park ceremony and a restaurant reservation for dinner is a full wedding day. Emily and Kevin’s entire celebration happened in three locations and it was perfect.
