Wychmere Beach Club Wedding | Harwich Port

A bride and groom kiss at sunset at their wedding at Wychmere Beach Club in Massachusetts

Kim & Mike’s Wedding at Wychmere Beach Club | Harwich Port, Massachusetts

After the ceremony, guests threw mini beach balls into the air.

Not rice. Not petals. Mini beach balls. The look on everyone’s faces: parents, wedding party, total strangers probably, was so purely excited that I think about it constantly.

That’s the energy Kim and Mike bring effortlessly

The venue: Wychmere Beach Club, Harwich Port, MA

Wychmere sits right on Nantucket Sound and it is not subtle about it. Private boardwalk, floor-to-ceiling windows in the Ocean Room, boats drifting by during cocktail hour, rooftop deck with a view that makes people stop mid-conversation and just stare. It’s the kind of place that does most of the work for you and then somehow still manages to exceed expectations.

This was also the first wedding I photographed after moving back to New England. Coming back to the Cape for it felt like I was home.

Getting ready

Kim and her bridesmaids got ready in a hotel room overlooking the resort. There was plenty of snacks, music, and nonstop laughing while the sea breeze blew through the windows. Both Kim and Mike’s moms helped with Kim’s jewelry at the same time. There was just an overwhelming feeling of love and ease in the room.

Mike and his groomsmen were down the road at The Mooring at Harwich Port, which is this beautiful coastal house, and somehow all four groomsmen were simultaneously helping him get his jacket on at one point. Four people. One jacket. Very efficient.

The first look

They chose a quiet spot by the boardwalk and read letters to each other while their family watched from a distance. No one was performing for anyone. It was just the two of them, in their own bubble, while the rest of us tried to stay quiet and not ruin it.

The ceremony

The ceremony took place right on the beach with ocean behind them, and then…a flurry of beach balls. They had guests throw them immediately after the first kiss and it was pure chaos combined with pure joy. I got some of my favorite frames of the entire day in that thirty-second window after the first kiss.

Cocktail hour + reception

Everyone moved up to the rooftop for cocktail hour and it was exactly what Cape Cod is supposed to feel like. Signature drinks were mixed, appetizers were passed, and guests got to wave at boats as they passed by.

The Ocean Room for the reception was done up in greenery and soft blue accents, and the table numbers were designed after those classic Massachusetts bookleaf town signs. It was such a personal, clever detail. The kind of thing you notice and immediately think okay, these people truly made this wedding their own.

The dance floor was full basically all night. The kind of reception where nobody wants to be the first one to leave.

Sunset portraits

When the sky started doing its thing, I asked if Kim and Mike were down to get some extra photos and they were! Cape Cod sunsets over Nantucket Sound are genuinely unfair, like the kind of light that makes you feel like you’re cheating at photography somehow.

Wychmere Beach Club wedding FAQ

Is Wychmere Beach Club good for a beach ceremony? Yes, they have a private beach where you exchange vows with the actual ocean behind you. Waves, sea grass, salt air, the whole thing. It’s exactly the beach getaway that it sounds like.

What’s the Ocean Room like for a reception? Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Nantucket Sound, rooftop deck for cocktail hour, holds up to 200 guests. The light in there during sunset is genuinely something incredible.

What are the best photo spots at Wychmere? The boardwalk, the beach, the sea grass paths, and the rooftop are all unreal. The sunset by the water is non-negotiable and if you’re getting married here and you don’t do sunset portraits you’re missing out!

How do we add personal touches at Wychmere? Kim and Mike are the blueprint for personal touches at their wedding. The beach ball toss, the town sign table numbers, signature cocktails. The venue is elegant but it leaves lots of blank canvas. There’s a lot of room to make it yours.

Are you available for Cape Cod weddings? Yes, absolutely! Get in touch here and let’s talk about your day!
