Madeline and Austin’s Wickham Park engagement session in Manchester, Connecticut was one of those shoots that makes you sloooooww down and breathe it in, even if you’re working. These two find so much comfort in each other that it felt like they existed in their own little bubble the entire time. Even while I was directing them, they trusted the process completely and stayed grounded in each other, not the camera.
As their photographer, I was instantly inspired. This session was soft, intimate, playful, and Madeline and Austin are the kind of couple who finds meaning in the smallest details.
Wickham Park is one of my favorite engagement session locations in Connecticut, especially for couples who want something outdoorsy without needing to hike a mountain or wander into the wilderness. It’s huge, versatile, incredibly beautiful, and best of all, local to Hartford County.
For Madeline and Austin, Wickham Park offered everything in one place. Gardens, rolling fields, woodlands, and that iconic hilltop overlooking the Hartford skyline. We moved through the Japanese and English gardens, wandered open paths, and ended the session up on the hilltop just as the light softened for sunset. Every turn felt like a new backdrop without ever feeling rushed or overwhelming.

This was a true summer engagement session. Sweat, bugs, warm air, and that hazy glow that only exists on lazy summer evenings. And instead of fighting it, Madeline and Austin leaned in completely. They danced barefoot through the field, lay in the grass together, and laughed while swatting bugs away.
One of my favorite moments was when they stretched out in the grass, totally relaxed, playful, and unbothered. Even though they probably spent more time swatting away June bugs than they would’ve liked, they knew it was about being together. Those are the moments that hold weight years later.
Photographing these two didn’t feel like a job. They move together naturally, melting into each other no matter the prompt or location. We mixed movement with stillness, playful spins with quiet pauses, inside jokes with long meditative moments.
Madeline and Austin have this rare ability to make even the smallest gestures feel significant. Playing with blades of grass, tangling themselves together as they watched the sunset, a hug in moments they wanted to feel safe. The kind of stuff that photographs beautifully because it’s real.

From a photographer’s standpoint, Wickham Park engagement sessions are a dream. The park truly has it all: manicured gardens, a marsh with a boardwalk, wooded paths, open fields, and sweeping views from the hilltop. Fun fact: Wickham Park is a wedding venue as well! They host celebrations at The Cabin at Hilltop Garden and The Emerald Room.
Because of its size, it’s easy to find quiet pockets even when the park is busy. That makes it an incredible option for introverted couples or anyone who feels nervous in front of the camera but still wants variety.
If you love the outdoors but don’t want your engagement session to feel like an endurance test, Wickham Park is for you. It’s ideal for couples who want lush scenery, open space, and a relaxed experience without needing to be overly adventurous.
Madeline and Austin’s Wickham Park engagement session was a reminder that the most powerful photos don’t come from big gestures. They come from comfort, trust, and letting yourself exist fully with the person you love.
