Some weddings feel like stepping straight into a storybook, and Julie & Matt’s day at Gwyn Careg Inn in Pomfret, Connecticut was exactly that. Between the lush garden grounds, literature-themed details, and heartfelt vows, the whole day felt like something out of Shakespeare: dreamy, romantic, and unforgettable.
While I spent the morning inside the historic inn with Julie and her bridesmaids, my second shooter was outside with Matt and the groomsmen. Both sides had plenty of laughter and energy andit was the perfect start to the day.
Julie’s gown had such a unique story. Originally a full ballgown, it was redesigned into a silhouette that felt completely her. Paired with her flower crown, she looked like she had walked right out of a woodland fairytale. (Can we bring back flower crowns forever?)
The garden ceremony at Gwyn Careg Inn is one I’ll never forget. Surrounded by friends and family, Julie and Matt exchanged handwritten vows that had everyone in tears, including me.
One line from Matt’s vows still gives me chills:
“Marrying you was the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make because you deserve so much more than I ever could offer. But I know no one will fight harder for you than me.”
TEARS. CHILLS. Everything about this ceremony was raw, emotional, and absolutely beautiful.
Julie and Matt’s reception was full of thoughtful, personal touches. Their centerpieces featured stacks of novels with table numbers tied to meaningful love quotes—a nod to their shared love of literature. It was such a unique way to weave their personalities into the day, and it made every table feel special.
Just when we thought the day couldn’t get any more perfect, a single cloud rolled in during dinner. Suddenly, sunshowers lit up the garden in the most magical golden light. Instead of hiding inside, Julie and Matt ran into the rain together while their guests cheered them on. It was pure joy—one of those unscripted moments that feels like a movie scene.
Once the skies cleared, the party moved full-swing onto the dance floor. Between heartfelt toasts, sunset portraits on the grounds, and Julie & Matt absolutely owning it when Monster Mash came on, the night ended with so much laughter and energy. (Still not convinced that dance wasn’t choreographed!)
Julie & Matt, thank you for letting me be part of your incredible day. Photographing your Connecticut wedding at Gwyn Careg Inn was a true honor, and I’ll always remember how much love, fun, and Shakespearean-level romance filled every corner of it.
