An Intimate Summer Wedding at The Pond House Cafe in Hartford, Connecticut

Olivea and Devin’s late July wedding at The Pond House Cafe in Hartford, Connecticut felt less like a traditional wedding and more like the most fun summer gathering imaginable. With just 38 guests, their day was intimate, playful, and full of personality from start to finish.

If you’ve ever wondered what happens when you combine a wildly joyful couple, a small guest count, peak summer gardens, bubble guns, ducks, and a dance floor that never quits, this wedding answers that question correctly with bonus points.

This is exactly the kind of wedding The Pond House does best.

Why The Pond House Cafe Is Perfect for Intimate Weddings in Connecticut

Located inside Elizabeth Park in Hartford, The Pond House Cafe is a dream venue for couples planning a smaller, more relaxed wedding. In late July, the gardens are absolutely thriving. Everything was lush, green, and bursting with color, and yes, the ducks were out in full force.

Olivea loves ducks so much that they became the cake toppers. She even asked me to take a nature walk during the day to photograph as many ducks as possible, which may be one of my favorite wedding photography requests ever.

The Pond House Cafe has a laid-back, welcoming feel that makes guests instantly comfortable. It’s ideal for couples who want their wedding to feel joyful and easy instead of overly formal or scripted.

A Stormy Summer Ceremony That Made the Moment Even Better

We planned Olivea and Devin’s first look and portraits outside in Elizabeth Park, and the timing couldn’t have been better. The greenery was glowing, the flowers were popping, and everything felt alive.

As soon as portraits wrapped up, the weather shifted. During the ceremony, you could hear the rain pounding on the roof as a summer storm rolled through. Instead of taking away from the moment, it made everything feel more intimate and emotional, like they were in their own little bubble with their favorite people.

The ceremony was officiated by Olivea’s dad, which added an extra layer of meaning. Between the sound of the rain, the closeness of their guest list, and the love filling the room, it was one of those ceremonies where everyone felt everything so deeply.

Getting Ready in Hartford: Playful, Relaxed, and Full of Personality

Olivea and Devin got ready at the Courtyard by Marriott Hartford Farmington in separate rooms, and I bounced back and forth between them all morning.

In the guys’ room, they were making pocket flowers out of extra bouquet blooms, casually crafting their own floral details. Then there was the full-sized cardboard cutout of Jeff Probst from Survivor. Unexpected. Iconic. Immediate mascot of the day.

The girls’ room was light, playful, and calm. No rushing. No stress. Just excitement and laughter. Olivea’s Converse were a standout detail, embroidered with sunflowers, their initials, and their wedding date. Comfortable, personal, and very her.

Games, Bubble Guns, and a Dance Floor That Never Slowed Down

This reception was pure joy.

Bubble guns were everywhere, and guests danced through clouds of bubbles all night long. There was a full game table with Jenga, Connect Four, axe throwing, temporary tattoos, and a photo scavenger hunt. The clothespin game was a huge hit, with guests sneaking colorful pins onto each other without being noticed. Totally ridiculous. Abosolutely hilarious. I would recommend it for every wedding honestly.

And somehow, despite all the games and the smaller guest list, the dance floor was constantly full.

The air was humid and lush, overcast in that anticipatory summer-storm way that makes everything feel electric. People played hard, laughed harder, and danced like they’ve never danced before.

A Pond House Cafe Wedding That Felt Completely True

What made Olivea and Devin’s wedding so special wasn’t just the location, the weather, or the details. It was how fully they embraced fun, connection, and the people they love.

They created a wedding day that felt true to who they are. They incorporated all the things they love and made sure there was meaningful moments layered into every part of the day.
