Erin & Max got married on a warm October day at Roger Williams Park in Providence, Rhode Island, and they did exactly what every couple should do: they poured their hilarious, laid-back, goofy personalities into every single detail.
I don’t think I’ve laughed harder at a wedding. It was such a breath of fresh air in the middle of busy season and reminded me why I love this job so much. (Also, when a couple meets playing Humans vs. Zombies in college and has a Dungeons & Dragons cake with Lego figurines, you just know it’s going to be a good day.)
The ceremony was equal parts heartfelt and hilarious. Max walked in holding hands with his grandmother, who proudly announced “I’M THE BRIDE!” to the crowd and giggled with delight. Then the ring bearer and his dad showed up in matching kilts and stole the show.
As Hedwig’s Theme from Harry Potter floated through the speakers, Erin walked down the aisle with her dad, and suddenly the whole park felt magical. Their vows were quirky, sweet, and completely them. Guests smiled, laughed, and probably cried all at once.
One of their friends officiated and gave the kind of personalized, hilarious ceremony only a friend could pull off, including dramatically revealing a glittery vest with the line, “by the power VESTED in me by the state of Rhode Island.” Comedy. Gold.
When Erin & Max walked back up the aisle, guests tossed frozen peas instead of confetti-feeding the ducks in the pond while celebrating the couple. Genius.
After the ceremony, I got to spend time with their incredible bridal party, who were eccentric, close-knit, and such a blast to hang out with. Every bridal party has its own personality. Some are chill, some are wild, some are goofy. Some, like this one, are all of the above.
Wandering around Roger Williams Park with Erin & Max was a dream. They’re one of those couples who are just unapologetically themselves, making each other laugh constantly, never taking things too seriously, and looking completely obsessed with eachother in every photo.
Though I didn’t stay for the full reception, I got to see all the creative, personal touches Erin & Max added to their day. Think:
Their first dance was sweet, the parent dances were joyful, and the whole room radiated their playful, geeky, creative energy.
If I could photograph a Roger Williams Park wedding in Rhode Island like this every weekend, I would never get tired of it. Erin & Max, thank you for being yourselves so unapologetically and for letting me capture a day that was as fun and unique as you are.
This wedding was one of many I’ve photographed across New England! Check out my complete list of New England wedding venues I’ve shot at for more ideas.
Beautiful pictures!!
