The world is such an amazing place these days. You can use your phone to navigate through confusing towns, virtually travel anywhere through google maps, and talk to someone every day for twelve years without ever meeting them just by tapping your fingers against some buttons (that one's me.) The earth is such a massive place, yet still so connected, and I find that to be such a beautiful thing. Had it been 25 years ago or so, Mikala and Pete may have never found eachother.
After the magical algorithms and geniuses of the online dating world brought them together, Mikala and Pete struck up a conversation and a month later, turned into a very weird first date at a local bakery (their words, not mine!) It can be an incredibly unreal, jarring experience to finally meet someone in person after bonding so much just through conversation but instead of letting the awkwardness get to them, they laughed together over it and agreed to a second "real" date. At this point, all weirdness had disappeared and they discovered their mutual love of camping, comedy shows, and Doctor Who (yep, this a couple after my own heart) and realized how perfectly they meshed together.
Last fall, Pete whisked Mikala off to Block Island in Rhode Island for a weekend of relaxing in one of the state's most gorgeous places. It was there that he proposed to her, taking her up to the top of a lighthouse, and giving her the surprise of her life. Apparently every single person in their lives was in on it, including the lighthouse keeper, and Mikala didn't have a clue. And that's how you do it, kids.

Mikala and Pete brought their super adorable, super fluffy, and super well-behaved puppy, Buddy to the session. I couldn't have been more excited, as this was my first shoot ever with a dog.

Oh yeah. Have I mentioned this is my most favorite place in the world? Before I started wedding and engagement photography, I would come here all the time to make silly stuff LIKE THIS happen. I was so ecstatic when Mikala requested this place for the session.

Just look at this dog and his little puppy eyes<3

Twice this session got postponed due to rain and the forecast for this day showed partly cloudy, beautiful warm weather. So of course, as soon as I get there, the fog rolls in and you can barely see anything past 50 feet. Go figure. I think we made the best of it though!

Mikala and Pete, I wish you all the best in planning for your wedding next year. You guys are absolutely made for eachother and two of the most fun people I've ever met. I'm so thankful it was your names I drew for the free engagement session. I could not be a happier photographer!
